Surah Al-Fatiha - سورة الفاتحة
Surah Al-Fatiha is known as the "Opening" and is a powerful Surah for spiritual healing. It is often recited for seeking Allah’s mercy and protection from unseen harm.
Surah Al-Falaq & Surah An-Naas - سورة الناس & سورة الفلق
Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Naas, known as Al-Mu'awwidhatayn (the two protections), are central to Ruqyah because they seek refuge in Allah from all kinds of harm—both seen and unseen. These Surahs protect against black magic (sihr), evil eye (ayn), envy, whispers from Shaytan, and harmful creatures or people. The Prophet ﷺ used to recite these two Surahs every night and blow over his body for protection. Their frequent recitation during Ruqyah strengthens spiritual shields and helps cleanse negative spiritual influences.
Surah Al-Baqarah - سورة البقرة
Surah Al-Baqarah is a shield against all forms of spiritual harm. The recitation of the entire Surah is known to weaken the influence of sihr (black magic) and expel devils. It brings barakah (blessing) into the home and acts as a spiritual cleanser, strengthening one’s connection with Allah and driving away negative energies.
Surah Al-Baqarah Last 2 Verses - سورة البقرة
The last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (verses 285–286) are among the most powerful protections in the Qur'an. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah at night, they will suffice him.” (Bukhari & Muslim) These verses serve as a shield from harm, including jinn, black magic, and the evil eye. They affirm a believer’s faith, submission to Allah, and reliance on Him alone, while asking for forgiveness, mercy, and protection from burdens too heavy to bear. In Ruqyah, they are often recited to strengthen spiritual defense, bring peace of heart, and invoke Allah’s divine care and support.
Ayatul-Kursi - آية الكرسي
Ayatul Kursi is one of the most powerful verses in the Qur’an for protection. It is widely used in Ruqyah to shield against jinn, black magic, and the evil eye. The Prophet ﷺ said that whoever recites it after each prayer and before sleep will be protected by Allah, and no harm will come to them through the night.
Surah Yaseen - سورة يس
Surat Yaseen is often referred to as the heart of the Qur'an and holds a special place in spiritual healing. While it is not traditionally part of the core Ruqyah recitations, many scholars and practitioners include it due to its calming effect, its reminder of Allah’s power to bring the dead to life, and its strong messages of tawheed (oneness of Allah). It helps strengthen faith during trials, bring tranquility to the heart, and remind the afflicted of the power and mercy of Allah. Its recitation during Ruqyah can help soothe anxiety, bring spiritual comfort, and support healing through trust in divine will.
Surah As Saafat - سورة الصافات
Surat As-Saaffat highlights the power of Allah and the strength of the righteous believers. It speaks about angels standing in rows, protection against devils, and stories of prophets who were saved from great trials. In the context of Ruqyah, this Surah serves to remind the afflicted of the unseen protection provided by Allah, His control over the jinn, and the ultimate triumph of truth over falsehood. It strengthens one’s conviction that evil forces are powerless without Allah’s permission, and brings reassurance to the soul under spiritual attack.
Surah Al-Jinn - سورة الجن
Surat Al-Jinn directly addresses the existence of jinn, their ability to listen to the Qur'an, and their recognition of its divine truth. In Ruqyah, this Surah is powerful because it clarifies the nature of jinn, their limits, and their inability to harm without Allah’s will. It reinforces that protection comes through obedience to Allah, not through fear of the unseen. Reciting this Surah during Ruqyah can help those afflicted by jinn possession or disturbances by affirming that the Qur’an is a healing force even recognized by the jinn themselves.
General Ruqyah
Ruqyah is a Sunnah practice used by the Prophet ﷺ to seek healing through the recitation of specific verses from the Qur’an. It is not only a means of protection from spiritual harm but also a way to bring inner peace, calm the heart, and reconnect with Allah ﷻ during times of distress or illness.
Evil-Eye (Ayn)
Ruqyah is a powerful means of protection and healing from the evil eye (al-‘ayn), which occurs when someone looks at another with envy or admiration, intentionally or unintentionally, causing harm. The Prophet ﷺ confirmed the reality of the evil eye and taught us to use Ruqyah, along with specific Surahs like Al-Falaq and An-Nas, to safeguard ourselves. Regular recitation helps neutralize its effects and brings Allah’s protection upon the afflicted.
Black Magic (Sihr)
Black magic (sihr) is mentioned multiple times in the Qur’an, including in Surah Al-Baqarah. It was practiced in ancient times and is still used today by those seeking to harm others spiritually. But did you know that the Prophet ﷺ himself was affected by sihr — and he overcame it through Ruqyah and the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah? This reminds us that seeking Allah’s protection through the Qur’an is the most powerful shield against any harm.
Knowledge (Ilm)
In Islam, seeking knowledge (ʿilm) is considered an act of worship. The first word revealed in the Qur’an was "Iqra" — “Read.” This shows the importance of learning in our faith. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Whoever follows a path in pursuit of knowledge, Allah will make a path to Paradise easy for him.” Whether it's learning about Ruqyah, the Qur’an, or the world around us — knowledge strengthens both our faith and our ability to help others.
Advice (Naseeha)
Naseeha (sincere advice) plays a powerful role in Ruqyah. Alongside the recitation of Qur’anic verses, offering guidance rooted in the Qur’an and Sunnah helps the affected person understand the spiritual causes of their affliction and the steps needed for healing. Whether it’s advising someone to strengthen their salah, avoid sinful habits, or renew their trust in Allah ﷻ — naseeha is part of the healing journey that Ruqyah encourages.
Burning (Haarq)
In Ruqyah, certain Qur’anic verses are known to cause ḥarq (burning) effects on jinn. This doesn’t refer to physical flames — rather, it's a spiritual burning caused by the intense power of Allah’s words. Verses like Ayat al-Kursi or parts of Surah Al-Baqarah are often used to weaken or expel harmful jinn. Ruqyah is not just healing — it’s a divine force that harms those from the unseen who intend harm.
Healing (Shifaa)
Shifā’ (healing) is at the heart of Ruqyah. The Qur’an itself is described as a “healing and mercy for the believers” (Surah Al-Isra 17:82). Whether the affliction is physical, emotional, or spiritual, Ruqyah serves as a reminder that true healing comes only from Allah ﷻ. Through the recitation of His words with sincerity, patience, and faith, the heart, body, and soul begin to recover and find peace.
Adultery/Fornication (Zina)
Zinā (fornication and adultery) is one of the major sins in Islam, and its effects can deeply harm a person’s soul, mind, and relationships. While Ruqyah is often used for protection and healing from external harm, it can also help those seeking to purify their hearts from past sins and spiritual burdens. Through sincere tawbah (repentance), duʿā’, and the recitation of Qur’an, Ruqyah becomes a path to inner healing, renewed faith, and closeness to Allah ﷻ.
Summarised Ruqyah (Mokhtasar)
Mukhtaṣar Ruqyah (Summarised Ruqyah) is a shorter version of the full Ruqyah session, using selected powerful verses from the Qur’an. It’s often used for daily protection, maintenance, or when time is limited. Despite being brief, it still carries strong spiritual impact — reminding us that even a few verses of Allah’s words, recited with sincerity, can bring immense healing and protection.
Divorce (Talaq)
Divorce (Ṭalāq), while permissible, can leave behind emotional wounds, spiritual heaviness, and mental distress. Ruqyah offers a means of spiritual cleansing and emotional healing during and after this difficult phase. Through the recitation of Qur’anic verses that soothe the heart and strengthen faith, a person can seek peace, patience, and clarity. Ruqyah reminds us that even in times of loss, Allah ﷻ is the source of comfort, guidance, and renewal.
Destruction (Tadmeer)
Tadmeer (destruction) can manifest in many forms — whether it’s the collapse of one’s health, family, wealth, or peace due to spiritual afflictions like sihr (magic) or hasad (envy). Ruqyah serves as a shield and a means of restoring what was damaged. Through the recitation of powerful Qur’anic verses, a person seeks Allah’s protection and aid in reversing the effects of destruction and rebuilding their life upon tawakkul (trust in Allah) and healing.
Prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ
Sending salawat (prayers) upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is not only an act of love and obedience — it’s also a means of attracting blessings and driving away hardship. Many scholars mention that frequent salawat can help remove spiritual blockages, bring peace to the heart, and increase the acceptance of duʿā. When recited alongside Ruqyah, it opens the doors of mercy and strengthens one’s connection to the Prophet ﷺ, who was sent as a mercy to the worlds.
Jews
During the lifetime of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, some individuals from the Jewish tribe of Banu Zurayq were involved in casting sihr (magic) upon him — a fact recorded in authentic narrations. This incident led to the revelation of Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Naas, which are widely recited in Ruqyah for protection. These chapters serve as a powerful shield against all forms of evil — reminding believers that ultimate protection lies with Allah ﷻ.
Christians
Ruqyah is deeply rooted in the Islamic belief in one God — Allah ﷻ, the ultimate source of healing and protection. Interestingly, many faiths, including Christianity and Judaism, have their own traditions of spiritual healing through prayer, scripture, and supplication. While the methods differ, the human need for spiritual well-being is shared across religious boundaries. Ruqyah offers a powerful reminder that turning to Allah ﷻ with sincerity and reliance is a universal principle — and one that connects us with a deeper purpose beyond just physical healing.
Birds (At-Tuyuur)
Birds (At-Tuyuur) are mentioned in the Qur’an as signs of Allah’s creation and power. In Surah Al-Mulk, Allah ﷻ reminds us how He keeps birds suspended in the sky — held up only by His command. Scholars mention that birds often symbolize freedom, peace, and spiritual elevation. In the context of Ruqyah, reflecting on these signs reminds the believer of Allah’s complete control over creation, reinforcing the faith and trust needed for spiritual healing.
Provisions (Rizq)
In Islam, Rizq (provisions) encompasses not just wealth, but all forms of sustenance that Allah ﷻ provides — including health, family, and peace of mind. Ruqyah is not just a means of protection from harm, but also a way to attract barakah (blessing) into one’s life. Reciting specific verses and supplications during Ruqyah can help clear spiritual blockages and bring about Allah’s mercy, increasing the flow of Rizq into one’s life. As the Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever seeks forgiveness, Allah will provide for him in ways he never expected."
Mountains (Al-Jibaal)
Mountains (Al-Jibaal) are often mentioned in the Qur’an as symbols of strength, stability, and the majesty of Allah’s creation. Allah ﷻ says in Surah An-Naba: “And He set the mountains as pegs.” (78:7). In the context of Ruqyah, the imagery of mountains reminds us of the unshakable strength and protection that comes from Allah. Just as mountains stand firm in the earth, Ruqyah helps fortify the believer’s heart and soul, providing spiritual stability and protection against external harm.
Guidance & Repentance
Ruqyah is not only a means of protection and healing but also a powerful tool for guidance and repentance. Many who engage in Ruqyah find it to be a deeply spiritual experience that reconnects them with Allah ﷻ. Through sincere recitation and reflection, hearts soften, sins are recognized, and the doors of tawbah (repentance) begin to open. Seeking Allah’s help through Ruqyah can lead a person back to the straight path, purifying the soul and renewing their commitment to righteous living.
Verses Related To Planets & Stars
These verses remind us of Allah’s immense power, precision, and wisdom in creation. In the context of Ruqyah, reflecting on these signs strengthens tawheed (belief in Allah’s Oneness) and repels reliance on astrology, fortune-telling, and superstitions, which are strictly forbidden in Islam. Understanding that Allah alone controls the heavens and the earth brings spiritual clarity and protection from misguided practices.
Verses Related To Sea
The Qur'an makes reference to the sea and the wonders of Allah's creation within it. These verses highlight Allah’s control over the oceans and the natural world, showing His unparalleled power and mercy. In the context of Ruqyah, reflecting on the vastness and power of the sea can be a reminder of Allah's ability to calm every storm, both in the physical and spiritual realms. It reassures those undergoing spiritual attacks or challenges that Allah’s will governs everything, including the forces of nature.
Verses Related To The Grave
The grave is a place of reflection in Islam, reminding us that this world is temporary, and our deeds will determine what happens after death. In Ruqyah, these verses are often recited to seek protection from the torment of the grave and spiritual purification. They serve as a reminder of the unseen world, strengthening faith and encouraging remorse for past sins, while striving for a good end.
Ruqya for Hair Loss
While hair loss can have medical or genetic causes, in some cases, it may be linked to spiritual afflictions such as sihr (black magic) or 'ayn (evil eye). Ruqyah can be used as a spiritual remedy when conventional treatments fail or when symptoms are accompanied by other signs of spiritual harm. Reciting specific verses like Surah Al-Falaq, Al-Baqarah, and the Mu’awwidhat (last three surahs) while placing one’s hand on the affected area can help seek Allah’s healing and protection.
Ruqya for Breast Cancer
Ruqyah serves as a spiritual supplement to medical treatment for illnesses like breast cancer. It is not a replacement for clinical care, but a way to seek healing through the words of Allah ﷻ, increasing reliance on Him during times of hardship. Many turn to Ruqyah to find inner peace, hope, and strength, especially when facing tests like chronic illness. Verses focused on shifaa’ (healing), such as Surah Al-Fatiha, Surah Al-Ikhlas, and Surah Ash-Shu'ara (26:80) — “And when I am ill, it is He who cures me” — are often recited with sincerity and trust in Allah’s mercy.
Ruqya for Walking Issues
When someone experiences difficulty walking without a clear medical cause, or if the condition worsens suddenly, it may indicate a spiritual affliction, such as jinn interference, sihr (magic), or evil eye. In such cases, Ruqyah can be used to seek Allah’s help in restoring strength and mobility. Reciting verses of healing and protection, like Surah Al-Fatiha, Ayatul Kursi, and Surah Al-Falaq, while gently placing the hand on the affected area and making du'a, can be a means of seeking relief. Many ruqyah practitioners have witnessed improvement through consistent recitation and trust in Allah’s power to cure.
